Creme (2021 - ongoing)
The practical utility of body cream is that of a retardant against the inevitable effects of time, gravity and impending irrelevance. In this series, ‘Creme’ 2021, Saheer and Asya explore the defensive nature of this protectant material, outside of the context of the body. Inspired by an unsettling global elevation of a fragile European beauty standard - thoroughly cemented through colorful depictions of prized beauty in European ‘Old Masters’ paintings - the artists seek to disrobe these notions of value by exposing their inherently soft, vulnerable and malleable nature, thru decontexualization.
